Pastoral Letter 16 April

Dear Friends,

Queensland Synod Moderator, Rev David Baker, says is his Easter Message, that Easter is an invitation. It’s an invitation to experience the story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection; and to be part of that story.  It’s an invitation to forgive and be forgiven. It’s an invitation to accept God’s love. It’s an invitation to take the first steps on the journey of what it means to be a Christian. It’s an invitation to walk that journey with someone else.

I also want to relate this to John’s account of the Resurrection story, from the perspective of Mary Magdalene. Mary’s story is one of searching and finding the unexpected.

Mary went to the tomb early by herself and found the tomb empty; the stone has been taken away from the entrance. As she did not expect the tomb to be open, she ran and told Peter that the Lord’s body has been taken from tomb.

She came back with the disciples but remained standing at the entrance after the disciples went back after confirming the open tomb and the missing body. Still not satisfied she looked inside and saw two angels but not what she was looking for – the Lord’s body. She turned, probably to look elsewhere when she saw Jesus standing there but did not realise him because she was not looking for a living Jesus. She only recognised him when she heard his voice when he called “Mary”.

So Easter is an invitation to experience Christ’s life, death and resurrection and participate in that story even if it take us to uncharted spheres in life but we are challenged to find out for yourself what it means.

Let us pray: Loving God, you are our shepherd, call us when we are lost in our search for you so we can come to you for reassurance and direction. Amen.

Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Paula

Pastoral Letter 9 April

Dear Friends,

Greetings and welcome to the Holy Week which starts on the Palm Sunday!

Special word of appreciation to Rev Amos and his wife for all the work they did at BRUC. I pray for God’s hand in his discernment regarding the work at the Ecumenical Christian Centre (ECC) in Bangalore, India.

Thank you all the people of BRUC for welcoming us (Josephina, Salote, Samiuela, Kava and Joanna were absent) into God’s family at BRUC last Sunday. We feel at home easily because of your welcome. We look forward to work with you all to continue and build up God’s church under his leadership and guidance.

This week, Matthew recalls what Zechariah has foretold “Tell the city of Zion…your king is coming to you…humble and rides” on a ‘borrowed’ donkey. His people greeted him with hosannas but later denied him and called to crucify him.

As Jesus came to his people, he also comes to us, and as his people denied him, let us invite him into our lives. As his people asked “Who is this?” we answer he is the Son of God who gave away his heavenly riches and became poor, so that by his poverty we may become rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9). Let us all be thankful to God for what he has done for us in Jesus Christ.

Isaac Watts rightly sings God’s praises through this amazing line “Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all” of the hymn “When I survey the wondrous cross.”

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for meeting us in simplicity so we can relate to you. Help us to be simple so we can relate to others. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all always.

Paula

Pastoral Letter 2 April

Hi Friends,

Greeting and welcome to the Holy Communion Service!

Special word of welcome to Pastor Paula and his family. I wish and pray for his fruitful and blessed ministry at BRUC.

I and my wife Shanthy take this opportunity to thank you for your love and support during my ministry. There is an expression of interest for my voluntary service in India. Please remember us in your prayers, as I wait upon the Lord seeking his direction.

We are in the Lenten season and we start the Holy Week next week, Sunday 9 April with the Palm Sunday service. Pray and participate.

When I read the Gospel lesson (John 11: 1-45) I was reminded that Jesus is our friend in need, as he was a friend of Bethany home. When I read about Jesus raising Lazarus, my faith was strengthened that Jesus has the power to transform our lives in this world and the world to come.

REMEMBER: THE FRIENDSHIP OF JESUS AND THE POWER OF JESUS.

“Expect great things from God and

Attempt great things for God.” –Willian Carey (A missionary to India)

Shalom!

Pastoral Letter 26 March

Welcome to the Harmony Day Worship Service!

Harmony is a Christian word and we call it “Shalom!” It also means peace and reconciliation. As we live together with the different cultures, languages, ethnicity and religions, we need to cherish and promote “unity in diversity.” We also realise that we live in a world of disharmony, alienation, sin and estrangement. So we pray and work for harmony and reconciliation for the broken world. “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ…and has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19)

Let me remind you some of the important events –

  • Next Sunday 2 April, I will take the Holy Communion Service.

It will be my official last Sunday Service. Pray for my future directions.

We will also welcome our New Pastor Paula and his family.

  • Thursday 6 March at 10 am we have service at Jacana.
  • On April 9 2017 we start our “Holy Week” starting with Palm Sunday Service.
  • Lent appeal: I would like to remind you about the “Lent Event Appeal”

Please give your donation to support the programs of our partner Churches in Asia, Pacific and African regions, through “Uniting World.” We will also give our Good Friday Offerings for the “Lent Event.”

Shalom!

Pastoral Letter 19 March

Friends,

Welcome to the Worship Service.

We also welcome the preacher Pastor John Grimshaw.

Let me remind you some of the important services:

  • Next Sunday (26 March) we celebrate the “Harmony Day.”

It is a day to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity. It is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home – from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. Harmony is a Christian word and we call it “Shalom!” It also means peace and reconciliation. As we live together with our different cultures, languages, ethnicity and religions, we need to cherish and promote “unity in diversity.” We also realise that we live in a world of disharmony, alienation, sin and estrangement. So we pray and work for harmony and reconciliation for the broken world. “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ…and has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19)

Australia celebrates Harmony Day on 21 March; but we celebrate to the nearest Sunday on Sunday 26 March at 9.30 am. We will have some special songs from different languages. You may wear your National dress.

  • Sunday 2 April I will take the Holy Communion Service.

It will be my official last Sunday Service. Pray for my future directions.

  • Thursday 6 April at 10 am we have service at Jacana.

Shalom!

Amos
